Lessons learned from our second international webinar

 VSH W2 visual 1

After the first international webinar on the 3rd of April, the Video Snackbar Hub team decided to organize a second one on Wednesday the 29th of April. With 10 amazing speakers and a Q&A box full of questions, it was a huge success. Spoiler alert: a lot of secrets were revealed. Keep reading to find out! Or just watch the full webinar right below.

1. A strong community is key

  • Now more than ever, we’re embracing user engagement and people interaction. Different broadcasters are finding creative ways to interact with their community. RTBF’s TARMAC, for instance, is using Twitch and Instagram Live. Rudi Vranckx (VRT’s war correspondent) contacted his community all over the world to find out how they’re dealing with the crisis. “Corona: the new frontline” will bring their stories to TV, airing next week.

“Zoom is definitely the new cool kid in town that has been booming hard during this crisis. At TML we used Zoom to engage our audience to participate in a kiss cam.” - Michael Dujardin (Tomorrowland)

2. Adapting to change

  • One thing we know for sure is that change is inevitable. In these times of crisis, change is accelerated and we should all embrace it. With only a couple of days or weeks left, some content creators and broadcasters have been forced to adapt their whole future strategy. Surprisingly and with limited resources, they managed to translate their problems into actionable challenges. Let’s use this quarantine to take out all the old ideas and reactivate them into new challenges. How far can we go with being creative in times of crisis?

“We have to adapt. Otherwise, we will become dinosaurs. And you know what happened to them.” - Rudi Vranckx (VRT’s war correspondent)

3. We’re all in this together

  • This pandemic is unlike any crisis we’ve ever seen. People all over the world are confronted with its consequences. But we shouldn’t hold back. This crisis is an opportunity to collaborate globally, exchange ideas and methods and inspire each other.

“We’re all striving towards the same goal: engaging to carry on and bringing everyone together, while keeping everybody safe.” - Jake Ward (Groovy Gecko)

4. Stay Safe

  • Despite the enormous creativity that many producers have shown lately, there’s one main priority: safety. From Andrea Bocelli getting his make-up done by his wife to Italian broadcaster RAI making most of their radio shows remotely. The latter also implied strict safety precautions for entering their buildings. In case the virus did enter the building, despite all their safety precautions, RAI built an emergency studio so their main radio channel would still be able to go live.

“Not only do we need to guarantee the health of the people, but also the building as a living infrastructure.” - Giovanni Ridolfi (RAI)

5. Shared secrets

  • Being in lockdown certainly forces us to be creative. As some of you may know, Instagram Live only allows 2 people to be on screen at the same time, but RTBF’s TARMAC takes it one step further. They wanted their 3 hosts to be live simultaneously. During the webinar, they revealed how they hacked the system. But they weren’t the only one sharing their secrets, Red Bull Media House talked about working together with the Belgian startup Azilpix. Want to know how and why they did it? Watch the full webinar above!

“We were keeping it a secret, until today. And you’ll have to slide in our DMs to get the full details!” - Wahiba Yachou (RTBF’s TARMAC)
