Fire at NTR: how a children's series lets you experience journalism

Het Brand

News is everywhere. Children, too, are constantly exposed to information through television, games, and social media. Messages spread at lightning speed. But how can you tell which information is accurate? What is true? Understanding the world around you is essential when living in a democracy.  To help 9- to 12-year-olds separate facts from clickbait, and make them understand the value of journalism, Het Klokhuis created a four-episode TV series and paired it with a new 3D game “Brand!” (Fire!).

Players dive into the same scenario through different roles. They can experience the story as a journalist, investigative reporter, juice vlogger or someone restricted by censorship. They experience first-hand how easy it is to launch nonsense and why truth matters.

From day one we built Brand! for everyone. The entire experience meets the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. That means kids with visual, auditory, motor, or cognitive disabilities can chase the story right alongside their friends or classmates. The series is also used in schools.

-Average playtime: 16’30 minutes.
-23.000 visitors in the first 3 months
-Brand! is nominated for the Prix Europa.
