We wanted to investigate if Artisto could deliver us a customizable software audio mixer. On top, we needed it to behave as an automatic sound engineer. So we needed intelligent tools to automatically and intelligently adjust levels of incoming audio sources.

In a nutshell, they delivered what we wanted. With us, they built an automatic leveler, based on loudness principles. Via their API we can tell Artisto we need to have that source at for example -23dB. Their auto leveler makes sure it does. On top, it is intelligent enough not to raise the volume, if it thinks it doesn’t have to (because the actual sound supposedly is only background noise). With these tools, and their fully open API we were ready to implement it in our automatic liveset, to replace the current external hardware mixer, which is not so ‘intelligent’. Unfortunately, we hit the problem that our current automation is not fully ready for Artisto’s API. Which is not to blame on On-Hertz, but on DPG. An interesting case for us to build and improve on.
