Instagram Co-founders reinvent the way young people access editorial content.
Young people are attracted to sensory journalism, which engages its audience's senses visually and sonically (Schulz, Fletcher, & Nielsen, 2022). Millennials depend on social media for news, entertainment, and a sense of connection. Today's dominant news acquisition is that youths are having a «News-finds-me-mindset» where they involuntary stumble over the news. (Schulz, et al., 2020)
One big issue with building a trustful relationship with young people occurs when young target groups no longer see the difference between legacy media content and other content. Where you aim to follow platform-related and aesthetic trends for hitting a wide audience in socials you get invisible because the target groups see you as “something else” as a brand, a commercial or whatever. (Haugfos, 2023)
Social Media lookalike
It was a question of time considering when one of the "bigger actors" uses the best from social media algorithms to create a locked platform that's controlled by editorial media publications. The Instagram co-founders are now betatesting "TikTok for text" under their brand ARTIFACT in collaboration with institutions such as The New York Times etc.
Their aim is to revolutionize the way young people access and consume editorial content. This new platform provides a personalized and curated experience for users, allowing them to discover new content and creators easily and quickly. With its clean and modern design, Artifact is designed to offer an immersive and engaging experience for users, making it easier for them to find and interact with content that is relevant and interesting to them.
