SEENIT

Seenit

The BBC first licensed Seenit in 2016 to test if User-Generated Content (UGC) could be used to create compelling stories, not just for broadcast, but for a variety of different platforms including social media.

Seenit

Seenit enables the capture, sourcing, and editing of user generated content. Through trialling Seenit in Connected Studio, we gained valuable insights into what worked well when capturing UGC, and equally, what didn’t. UGC has the potential to create powerful and authentic content, by allowing audiences and contributors to tell their own stories from their own perspectives. It opens up possibilities for new ways of thinking for producers when creating content, and using tools like Seenit can help streamline processes that would otherwise be onerous for production teams.

After trial use by Connected Studio, Seenit was used for several projects within the BBC, most notably by BBC Three for their documentary Freshers 2018. The documentary followed a group of first-year students going to start their first terms at university, and Seenit allowed them to easily submit their own videos. The power of user-generated content was particularly effective in an episode centering around mental health, giving unfiltered accounts of student’s experiences in their own words.
