Strengthening togetherness in a digital world with Sceenic
Do you long for a cosy get together with your family or friends, but not everyone can make it (and you’re not looking for another video call)? Combining software with the newest technologies to create an in-person experience in a digital world, that’s precisely what Sceenic does best.
Who is Sceenic?
Sceenic is a software company established in 2013. They are on a mission to create, what they like to call “togetherness”, via a Watch Together software solution. They aim to replicate the in-person experience via a digital experience where OTT/video platform users can share their favourite content with friends and family over a real-time video call.
Their vision has become a trend among the online platforms of the sports and entertainment industry. The success of Sceenic’s work has also become apparent by the number of users of BT Sport Watch Together, ScreenHits TV Watch Together, TV Watch Party, among many others of our partners.
During a global pandemic in which everyone felt isolated at home, Sceenic saw the impact and success of their work grow. Many clients accelerated the deployment of their Watch Together solution. For example, BT Sport Watch Together was launched in June 2020 when stadiums had to close their doors to fans. Through their collaboration, Sceenic saw the tremendous power of enabling people to be together and share memorable moments.

Collaboration Sandbox Hub
Via the Sandbox Hub, Sceenic was introduced by NMA (Next Media Accelerator) to several partners and media companies such as YLE, NPO, NDR and VRT. It all started when Sceenic met with VRT and YLE at a Brussels based event called Media & Culture Fast Forward in January 2020. Through NMA, they also got in touch with the Dutch public broadcaster NPO and started working together towards the end of 2019. Today, Sceenic’s Watch Together SDKs powers the ‘NPO Samen’ co-watching feature on the NPO Start video platform. It was Sceenic’s first engagement with a public broadcaster, which provided them with additional valuable insights. And the story continues: Sceenic also collaborated with NDR and YLE to power the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest with their Watch Together experience.

The future of Sceenic certainly looks bright. They aim to keep realizing the best co-viewing experiences for platforms that want to provide a real-life video experience to their users. In addition, Sceenic strives to create next-level experiences for the market by allowing new ways of togetherness using technologies such as AR.
